BIO

Ian Gilmore, Senior NPL Fellow at the National Physical Laboratory, is a physicist who has made breakthroughs in high-resolution molecular imaging by mass spectrometry. His invention of OrbiSIMS technology has had a wide impact across research in biomedicine and novel devices, revolutionising our ability to visualise the distributions of drugs, metabolites and other chemicals in biological tissues with exquisite detail. He continues to lead new concepts in chemical imaging, currently devising quantum detection methods with orders of magnitude improvements in signal-to-noise. He provides a valuable bridge between the physics and biomedicine research communities, raising awareness of new imaging technologies with medical applications.
